Mastering the Art of Free Publicity
Some businesses and organizations seem to get all the free press. If you're not one of them, find out how you can be! Local marketing guru Taimi Dunn Gorman will show you how to write what the news media want to print. You'll discover what kinds of press-appropriate activities get published and what gets ignored. You'll also learn what goes into an effective press release, as well as what types of releases should be sent to which media people. Class materials include addresses and email lists for sending stories, news items and other releases. Taimi Dunn Gorman of Gorman Publicity has created buzz for several successful and well-known businesses in Bellingham, including The Colophon Cafe and The Doggie Diner.

What students had to say:
I have taken two of your classes through WCC and both have been more than insightful, not to mention helpful. I am making connections right and left with various Bellingham based individuals and organizations, experiencing less self doubt the more I talk about my workplace and job responsibilities, which include PR for the Center for Expressive Arts & Experiential Education. Two weeks ago we had a nice write-up in the Cascadia Weekly and this Thursday there will be a short but sweet piece in Take 5. So thank you for your enthusiasm, helpful materials and honesty. I feel like I am on track. Thanks again. Yours,
Mary Burwell
Thank you for the class on Thursday of Mastering the Art of Free Publicity. Monday I sent a press release out, and today I received a call from the Whatcom Independent wanting to do a story! I can’t believe all this happened within a week of your class. Damn, you’re good!

Joyce Russell, Clayworks
“Even after many years of business there is still much to learn! I got a fresh perspective. I realized I need continuity in my ads and that press releases can be very valuable”
Elisa Shafa, Bead Bazaar
I and the members of the Nellie Gerdrum Lodge #41 of the Daughters of Norway would like to thank you
for your Publicity course. As a result of your very
thorough and attentive instruction I have been able to develop a strong publicity program for the lodge that is producing solid results in only three months. In addition to attracting new members, which was my original goal, past members are expressing interest and current members are more active participants. Your effervescence and creative problem solving is contagious. Your continuing feed back is invaluable. Thank you.
